This time of year always encourages me to reflect on all the stuff I have stored in tubs, crowded into my closets, and taking up the parking spaces in the garage. While not all of us are ready to “down-size” our living spaces, we can still appreciate ideas to keep our clutter to a minimum and begin to choose the must-haves that we can’t be content without!

The following article, “4 Obstacles to Decluttering and How to Beat Them”, gives some practical advice that will make the task easier to complete. Please share any ideas you have to help de-clutter your homes.

10 Advantages of the Humble Ranch House

Share this...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+Pin on PinterestEmail this to someone

Reading one of my favorite sites for property trends, HOUZZ, I recently read an article that sums up the best features of the ranch-style home. Growing up in one of these 1-story houses with it’s open living layout and bedrooms down a single hallway, I decided that as a grown-up I wanted to live in a more unique and less obvious style of architecture. So…I jumped into the larger facades of two-story family rooms, designed with artful niches, Juliet balconies, and statement staircases. I still appreciate the look of  homes built in the 90’s, but something about the ranch has been drawing me back into one of these uncomplicated houses, usually in some of the best pocket neighborhoods of the city.

My next post will highlight one such home…8506 Flagstone Drivebut for now enjoy the following article!  http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/16733969

Enjoy the Season!

The Christmas season introduces many  opportunities to enjoy  pocket area celebrations. Sometimes the ones closest to us are the ones we forget to try. What’s happening in your pocket? In Georgetown each year the season begins with the downtown tree-lighting. It’s a low-key relaxing event to enjoy with the visitors left over from Thanksgiving. This  weekend, December 6-7, The Christmas Stroll is the place to be for fun, food, and fabulous gifts, all in a beautifully festive historic downtown square of Georgetown. Just a few minutes north of Austin, the stroll in Georgetown offers a perfect way to spend a Friday evening or Saturday with family and friends.  https://visit.georgetown.org/christmas-stroll/

Central Austin at Its Best!

Share this...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+Pin on PinterestEmail this to someone

When looking for the perfect property  in a great location, close to many of Austin’s favorite spots for shopping, eating, and playing, this home at 6801 Daugherty Street is one to see!

I love the idea of living in older homes with their interesting details, surprising architectural finds, and the best locations. However, with those attributes an older home can also add lots of money in remodeling and repairing the not so wanted surprises in the process. How wonderful to find a home in the middle of the city with the historic architecture many seek but with all the upgrades and remodeling already completed! The listing is offered by Mark Murrell with JB Goodwin Realtors and is priced at 549,900. Daugherty 1   It was built in 1952 but has been remodeled from the studs out with an additional 1,000 square feet added. Lovely street appeal in this 2,100 square feet craftsman remodel.

Allandale

Share this...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+Pin on PinterestEmail this to someone

Allandale is one of my favorite pockets of Austin! It is perfectly located less than a mile from MOPAC, central enough to drive out of town to the north in less than 30 minutes and dowtown within 15. It’s close to the newest of shopping areas like the Domain, while still having the local neighborhood possibilities for furniture, clothing, consignments, and so many that I can mention all! Some of Austin’s best local restaurants are located here…Frisco, Phil’s Ice House, Fonda San Miguel, and Hat Creek Burgers, just to name a few. Properties here are still some of the best kept secrets with a variety of prices usually depending on their updated status.
